The Schoenefeld Simulator Training Centre is recognised across Europe as the most innovative of its kind. In addition to Lufthansa personnel, pilots from 70 other airlines and 44 countries are trained on the centre's 10 flight simulators. This creates direct jobs, but also indirect economic benefits; over 5,000 overnight hotel stays are booked each year for the pilots learning on each flight simulator.

The Wildau Aerospace Technology Centre was completed in late 2003. A large number of aviation companies have located their operations at the centre with its 2ha (5 acres) of grounds. To meet the needs of the industry, the nearby Wildau Technical College has added aviation technology/aviation logistics as a new area of studies. In addition, the graduate school of the technical college is offering an MBA focusing on air travel management. An English-language course of study in aviation management will be added in 2007.
