Concentrating all Berlin air traffic at a single location offers ecological benefits over the current situation. Land use will be reduced, along with disturbances from noise and traffic.

By closing Berlin's inner-city airports, Tegel and Tempelhof, hundreds of thousands of residents in Berlin and Brandenburg will no longer have to live with aircraft noise. At BER, the midfield concept will ensure that most ground aircraft noise remains on the premises. In addition, the airport will enforce strict noise reduction regulations.
