BBI-Aircargo: facts & figures
A first module of a new midfield cargo facility at BBI is being planned for a capacity of 60,000 tonnes. BBI offers the industry perfect opportunities for future growth. With an approved capacity of up to 600,000 tonnes of cargo, BBI is well equipped for the future. Berlin already has a global network thanks to flights operated by express carriers TNT Express, UPS and FedEX. With the increasing number of long-haul flights for passengers from Berlin to New York, Doha, Bangkok, Peking, Miami, Dubai and Mombasa the air cargo volume is continuing to rise (see chart below).

The air cargo terminal
All cargo carried by passenger aircraft is to be handled in the air cargo terminal at BBI Airport by the air cargo handling companies Wisag Cargo Service Berlin and SCS Swissport Cargo Service. Due to airport development forecasts, priority is to be given to accommodating air cargo handlers and customs and authorities (GVD/PGD) in the air cargo terminal.
The area between the two handlers will be allocated to air freight forwarders. Cargo will be delivered via a ramp closed to the outside yet offering direct access to the ramps of the two cargo handlers, and customs and the authorities. Both cargo handlers will also have their own separate delivery facilities.
Space is available to freight forwarders in the cargo hall for individual and/or bulk storage.
